An exhibition of torture instruments and restraint devices dating from the Medieval period to the modern industrial era. |
ATROCITIES was designed and assembled by curator Steve Santini (thedarkmaster.com). In the course of his occupation as “The World’s Most Extreme Escape Artist”, (So named by the legendary Ripley’s Believe it or Not!), Santini encountered many of the objects displayed in this exhibit and added them to his collection.
A keen history buff, Santini has worked with many museums and he has authored a number of published works on a wide range of topics including an illustrated volume on restraints titled, “Devices of Human Restraint”.
Parts of Santini’s collection of restraint and torture devices have been featured and/or mentioned in such publications as CHILL magazine, (The official magazine of The Beer Store chain in Canada), Blue Line magazine, (Canada’s leading magazine for the law enforcement community), and also in “A Guidebook to Handcuffs and Other Restraints of the World” by Alex R. Nichols.
When not performing with his touring stage show Santini assists a number of museums including “Titanic: The World’s Largest Museum Attraction” in Branson, Missouri and the soon to be opened “National Museum of Crime and Punishment” in Washington, D.C.
A number of Santini’s restraints and torture devices will be on display at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment.
Santini has also offered assistance and historical input to many other groups and firms specializing in his areas of expertise. Of particular note are The Medieval Kriminal Justice Museum in Rottenburg on der Tauber in Germany and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Pictures during pre-production work on the blockbuster film “Titanic”.
Santini has also offered his historical assistance, research, and knowledge to a number of leading auction houses specializing in rare antique items. These include Christies East in New York City and Henry Aldridge and Son in the U.K.
